Dog Training Agreement

This Dog Trainer Contract (“Agreement”) is entered into on this day:

The purpose of this form is to disclose all known behavioral issues and health conditions of the dog that may affect boarding or training. The Trainer relies on the accuracy and completeness of this information to provide safe and effective services.

Representations About the Dog

  • Client is the lawful owner of the Dog and has full authority to enter into this Agreement.

  • Dog is properly licensed and carries current vaccinations, including rabies, DHLPPC, and bordetella.

  • Dog’s current health status and all medications have been fully disclosed to the Trainer in writing.

  • Client has disclosed in writing any history of aggression, biting, or behavioral issues, as well as any pending legal proceedings involving the Dog.

  • Dog is not kept, trained, or used as a guard or protection animal.

  • Dog is reasonably healthy, and any limitations have been communicated to Trainer in writing.

Training Format

The parties agree the Dog will participate in the following format:

Single choice
Five (5) private lessons
Ten (10) private lessons
Group lessons
Other

Compensation

Client shall pay Trainer a non-refundable fee of $650 for 5 lessons, $1050 for 10 lessons. Additional fees of $130 per single lesson AFTER a package is completed.


Once a dog can reliably perform a passing AKC Novice Routine in one single shot (no cuts or edits), additional lessons are $80 per hour.*


*Subject to increase if dog's obedience is not maintained.

I certify that I have fully and truthfully disclosed all known behavioral issues and health conditions of my Dog. I understand that failure to disclose such issues may endanger the Trainer, other people, or animals, and may result in termination of training without refund.

Client's Duty to Reinforce Training

Client and all members of Client’s household agree to:

  • Follow Trainer’s instructions without modification.

  • Work with Dog at least 60 minutes per day, 6 sessions per week, for a minimum of 24 weeks.

  • Reinforce training consistently throughout the Dog’s life.

Assumption of Risk and Client's Liabilities

Client understands and accepts the risks inherent in animal training, including but not limited to:

  • Animal bites, tripping, collisions, or fights.

  • Slippery surfaces or equipment hazards.

  • Actions of other dogs, clients, or guests.


Client accepts all risks of illness, injury, loss, theft, pregnancy, or unwanted behaviors in the Dog, except for problems caused intentionally or recklessly by Trainer.


Client is financially responsible for all property damage, bites, or injuries caused by the Dog during or after training, whether on or off Trainer’s premises.


Client shall indemnify and defend Trainer, Trainer’s staff, and representatives from all claims, suits, attorney’s fees, and costs arising from Dog’s conduct.


Visitors: Client is responsible for all persons brought to Trainer’s premises or training locations. Each visitor must sign a waiver; otherwise, Client shall indemnify Trainer for resulting claims.

Client’s Liability for Injury or Death

Client agrees to assume full responsibility and liability for any injury or death caused to the Dog Trainer or any member of the Dog Trainer’s staff by the Client’s dog during the course of training or any related activities. This includes, but is not limited to, medical expenses, lost wages, and any other damages incurred as a result of such injury or death.


Client expressly waives any defense based on the assumption of risk doctrine, which might otherwise limit or negate the Client's liability for injuries or death caused by the Client's dog. The Client acknowledges that this waiver is intended to ensure that the Dog Trainer and their staff are fully protected and compensated for any harm caused by the Client's dog, regardless of any inherent risks associated with dog training.

Trainer’s Right to Terminate

Trainer may terminate this Agreement if, in Trainer’s sole judgment:


  • Dog is dangerous,

  • Client or Client’s visitors interfere with training, or

  • Client breaches this Agreement.


If termination occurs within the first week, Client will be refunded 80% of the total compensation. All other provisions of this Agreement remain in effect.

Boilerplate

  • This Agreement is binding upon Client, Client’s spouse, children, heirs, and assigns.

  • This Agreement supersedes all prior oral or written agreements.

  • No oral promises are enforceable unless included in writing in this Agreement.

  • Amendments must be in writing and signed by both parties.

  • Remedies under this Agreement are cumulative.

  • If any provision is found invalid, the remainder of the Agreement remains enforceable.
