We'll cover AKC's Canine Good Citizen requirements, testing, No prior obedience experience is required! The 10 test items are as follows: • Accepting a Friendly Stranger: The dog allows a friendly stranger to walk up, talk to the handler, and ignore any shyness or resentment. • Sitting Politely for Petting: The dog sits politely while being petted by a friendly stranger. • Appearance and Grooming: The dog permits a simple examination, allowing the evaluator to brush it and check its ears and front paws. • Out for a Walk (Loose Leash Walking): The dog walks on a loose leash in a controlled manner, including left and right turns, a slow pace, a fast pace, and a halt. • Walking Through a Crowd: The dog walks politely past at least several people while on-leash in a public setting. • Sit and Down on Command and Staying in Place: The dog responds to the handler's cues to sit and down, then stays in place while the handler walks to the end of a 20-foot line. • Coming When Called: The dog comes promptly to the handler when called from a distance of 10 feet on a 20-foot line. • Reaction to Another Dog: The dog shows only casual, polite interest when another handler and dog approach, shake hands with your handler, and pass by. • Reaction to Distractions: The dog remains calm and shows no panic, excessive barking, or aggression when faced with everyday visual and auditory distractions (such as a dropped metal item or loud noise). • Supervised Separation: The dog stays calm for 3 minutes while the handler steps completely out of sight Please, no dogs with human or dog aggression. Final class will be the Canine Good Citizen test. Owners will have the opportunity to title their dogs in CGC. High-achieving students may also test for CGCA and CGCU. (pending CGC pass) Enrollment in this class does not guarantee a CGC title! Owners must work diligently to accomplish their end goals. Recommended Tool List: - Flat Collar, any type - 6 Ft Leather or Biothane leash - Choke Chain - Prong Collar Food not required, but owners may bring food and treats if desired.
